Epitalon by prescription in the US
Epitalon is a lab-made peptide that is not FDA approved. Since October 30, 2026, a federal HHS policy says regulators do not intend to act against state-licensed 503A pharmacies that compound it as an injection on a valid prescription and meet strict conditions. This guide explains what changed, how thin the human evidence is, and how to check a provider before you pay.
Epitalon is one of 6 peptides in the HHS 503A policy published October 30, 2026. 54 pharmacies and clinics sell it now and pass our prescription checks.
Research checked on October 29, 2026.

What epitalon is
Epitalon is a short chain of four amino acids, the building blocks of protein. All epitalon sold today is made in a lab. You may also see it called epithalon, epithalone or AEDG peptide, after the letters for its four amino acids.
Researchers in Russia first made it in the late 1980s, based on epithalamin, an extract from the pineal gland of cattle. The pineal gland is a small gland in the brain that makes melatonin, the hormone that helps time sleep. The FDA treats epitalon and epithalamin as different substances.
Epitalon is not FDA approved for any use, and it is not part of any approved drug. In 2010 it got an FDA orphan drug designation for an inherited eye disease. That designation was withdrawn in 2016, and it was never an approval.
Clinics promote it online for healthy aging, sleep and longer telomeres. Telomeres are caps on the ends of your chromosomes that get shorter with age. Most of the research behind these claims was done in cells and animals, as the evidence section below explains.
Is epitalon legal in the US now?
Compounding is when a licensed pharmacy makes a drug for one patient on a prescription. Under federal law, a 503A pharmacy can usually only use ingredients that pass one of three tests. The ingredient is part of a drug the FDA has approved, has a USP monograph, or is on the FDA's 503A bulks list. Epitalon passes none of them.
From September 29, 2023 to April 22, 2026, the FDA kept epitalon on its Category 2 list. That list flags ingredients that may pose serious safety risks. Epitalon came off it after the groups that nominated it withdrew. HHS says neither step changed its legal status.
On July 24, 2026, the FDA's compounding advisory committee reviewed epitalon for insomnia. FDA staff advised against adding it to the 503A bulks list. They said there are no clinical data to support its safety in people. The committee voted in favor anyway, by a narrow margin. The vote is advice only, and the FDA has not made a final decision.
On October 30, 2026, HHS published a notice in the Federal Register, FR Doc 2026-22192. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. signed it. The notice itself names no peptides. The policy it points to lists six in its Appendix A, and epitalon is one of them.
HHS says it does not intend to take enforcement action against a state-licensed pharmacy, federal facility or licensed doctor that compounds epitalon under the policy's conditions. This lasts until a final FDA rule decides whether epitalon goes on the 503A bulks list.
This is not FDA approval and it is not a final rule. The notice calls the policy a draft and takes public comments for two weeks. HHS says the policy is not binding and may be revisited if a safety or quality problem appears.
What the HHS policy requires for epitalon
The pharmacy needs a valid prescription for you by name. It cannot sell epitalon to anyone without one.
The policy names one form, epitalon acetate. It covers only injection under the skin or into a muscle. It also says epitalon should be given in courses with breaks, not nonstop. Capsules, nasal sprays and creams are outside the policy for epitalon.
Each product may contain only one active ingredient. Blends of epitalon with other peptides fall outside the policy. If a device comes in the pack, it must be an FDA-cleared syringe.
The raw peptide must come from a maker registered with the FDA. Each lot needs a certificate of analysis. It must show tests for identity, purity, strength and contaminants such as endotoxins and heavy metals.
The label must say: "This is a compounded drug product. Not for resale." The pharmacy must report serious side effects and quality problems to the FDA through MedWatch. The label should also tell you how to report a problem.
How to get epitalon on a prescription
Start with a visit, in person or by video, with a licensed prescriber. They should review your health history, your current medicines and why you want epitalon. They decide whether a prescription is right for you.
The prescriber must be licensed in the state where you are at the time of the visit. HHS telehealth guidance says this. Ask which states they are licensed in before you book.
The prescription then goes to a state-licensed 503A compounding pharmacy. The pharmacy makes the product for you and ships it or has it ready to pick up. A pharmacy must be allowed to ship into your state, and not every one is. Ask before you pay.
In a proper prescription route, a prescriber approves you before you can check out for the peptide. A site that sells epitalon with no prescription, or as "research use only", is not using this route. HHS says one aim of the policy is to move patients away from research-use-only peptides made abroad.
What the evidence says
Most research on epitalon has been done in cells and in animals. The FDA notes that most of it comes from one research group in Russia. Lab studies report that it can switch on telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds telomeres. Some mouse studies reported longer life and fewer tumors. Animal results do not show that it works in people.
Human data is very thin. The FDA found no published studies of epitalon in people with insomnia. It found no human studies of injections under the skin, the form the policy covers.
The closest human study, published in 2021, gave 40 women who worked night shifts an under-the-tongue spray of epitalon or a placebo. The epitalon group had more of a melatonin breakdown product in their urine. The study did not measure sleep. It was small and short, and the report did not say whether it was blinded.
A review of the research published in October 2026 found only small studies of body functions and lab markers, plus one older eye disease study. It found no large randomized trial showing that epitalon treats any condition. It called epitalon "biologically active but clinically unproven".
ClinicalTrials.gov lists one study that names epitalon, posted in October 2026. It uses epitalon in a skin serum mixed with four other peptides. It has no comparison group and no results yet, so it cannot show what epitalon does on its own.
Safety and questions to ask
The FDA found no clinical data to support the safety of epitalon in people. It found no data on how the body absorbs or clears it. Its report database had no side effect reports through December 2025. But pharmacies seldom file such reports, so that does not show it is safe.
One FDA concern is cancer. Epitalon can lengthen telomeres in lab studies, and longer telomeres are generally linked with higher cancer risk. No long-term cancer studies have been done. The mouse studies that found fewer tumors were too limited to settle the question. The FDA's concern is mostly about nonstop, long-term use, and the HHS policy covers only courses with breaks.
The FDA is also concerned about immune reactions to injected peptides. Peptides can clump, and impurities from manufacturing can add risk.
Ask your prescriber: Which states are you licensed in? What is the evidence for my goal? How will you plan and monitor my treatment? What side effects should I watch for, and who do I contact? Is it safe if I have had cancer, am pregnant, or take other medicines?
Ask the pharmacy: What is your name, and are you a 503A pharmacy licensed to ship to my state? Who made the raw peptide, and is that maker registered with the FDA? Can I see the certificate of analysis for my lot, including endotoxin and sterility tests? Is epitalon acetate the only active ingredient?
If you have a side effect, tell your prescriber. You can also report it to the FDA through MedWatch.
How we check providers
We checked 250 US sellers across the six peptides in the HHS policy. 54 ranked providers list epitalon. What they charge: $249 to $320 a month, for the 3 of 7 that post a price and sell by the month. We never mix a monthly price with a price per vial. Check what each price covers. Another 14 list it but are not ranked, each with the reason on this page.
We also found 3 sellers offering epitalon with no real prescription check, often as "research use only". We do not rank them or name them here.
Legal checks carry the most weight in our scores. We look for a state license, a prescription before checkout, single-ingredient products, routes the policy covers, and any FDA warning letters. For epitalon, that means injection only, with no blends. Quality checks include a named, FDA-registered ingredient maker and batch certificates of analysis. We also check whether prices and the states served are public.
Prices and fees change often. Check them, and the states served, on the provider's own page before you book a visit. The research for this page was done on October 29, 2026.
Questions
Is epitalon legal in the US?
Epitalon is not FDA approved. Since October 30, 2026, an HHS policy says regulators do not intend to act against state-licensed 503A pharmacies that compound it as an injection on a valid prescription and meet set conditions. Products sold as "research use only" are not covered.
Is epitalon approved by the FDA?
No. Epitalon is not FDA approved for any use. Compounded drugs are not FDA approved either, so the FDA does not review their safety, effectiveness or quality before they are sold.
Did RFK Jr. make epitalon legal?
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. signed the notice published on October 30, 2026. It does not approve epitalon or add it to the 503A bulks list. It says HHS does not intend to act against compounding six peptides, including epitalon, under set conditions while the FDA works on a final rule.
Can I get epitalon through telehealth?
Yes, if the prescriber is licensed in the state where you are during the visit. The prescription must go to a 503A pharmacy that can ship to your state. Check both before you pay.
Can I get epitalon as capsules, a nasal spray or a cream?
Not under this policy. For epitalon it covers only injection under the skin or into a muscle, given in courses with breaks. Each product must have epitalon as its only active ingredient.
Does epitalon work?
There is not enough human evidence to say. Most studies are in cells and animals. The few human studies are small, mostly measured lab markers, and did not test injections under the skin.
Can epitalon cause cancer?
No one knows yet. The FDA says that because epitalon can lengthen telomeres in lab studies, it could in theory raise cancer risk, and no long-term cancer studies exist. Talk to your prescriber first, especially if you have had cancer.
Is epitalon banned in sports?
Epitalon is not named on the World Anti-Doping Agency list. But the list's S0 class bans peptides not approved for human use at all times, and USADA says the 2027 list names peptides in general there. Athletes should check Global DRO or ask USADA before using it.
