How much does it cost to test peptides?

For one common peptide, such as BPC-157, most labs charge $150 to $250. The price usually covers purity by HPLC. Some labs also include identity and the amount of peptide in the vial. Others charge extra for these.

What is the cheapest way to test peptides?

  1. Free testing.

In the UK, Peptide Scanner tests vials free at a UK university lab, purity by HPLC. The result is published. Finnrick also runs free community tests, if it picks your request, and publishes those too. How free testing works.

  2. A public paid test.

Finnrick's Build Your Own test at Krause Analytical starts at $69 if the result is public.

  3. A private paid test.

Our test is $99 at Krause Analytical in Austin, TX. It covers identity by mass spec, purity by HPLC and the amount in the vial. The report is private to you. Compare private test prices at 12 labs.

  4. Split the cost.

Users on Reddit often pool money to test one batch, then share the report. This works when everyone bought the same batch from the same seller.

  5. Check before you pay.

The seller may already have a lab report for your batch. Search the seller on Peptide Scanner first. We list the certificates we have found for each product. Search sellers.

What should a cheap test still include?

A low price is only useful if the test answers your question. Check these four things before you order.

  • Purity by HPLC

This shows how much of the sample is the main compound. Almost every lab includes it.

  • Identity

Is it the peptide on the label? Mass spec confirms this directly. HPLC alone compares the timing of a peak against a standard, which is an indirect check.

  • Amount in the vial

A vial can be 99% pure and still hold 6mg instead of 10mg. Some labs charge extra for this, so read the price line.

  • Endotoxin

This checks for bacterial toxins. It is a separate test at most labs and costs $109 to $300 on top.

If a test leaves out identity or amount, it can look cheap and still miss the main problem.

HPLC testing cost vs mass spec

HPLC is the standard peptide purity test. On its own it usually costs $150 to $200 per sample at the labs above.

Mass spec costs more when a lab sells it as an extra. Janoshik's LC-MS screen for other peptides is $205 on top of its test. Vanguard lists LC-MS identity as "Ask us". Our $99 test includes mass spec identity.

Where to test peptides

In the US
Most of the labs in the table are in the US. You post the vial to the lab and get a PDF report by email.
In the UK
You can post a vial within the UK for our free test. For a private test, you can post abroad to a US lab or to Janoshik. Check the lab's rules for international samples first.
In Europe
Janoshik is in Prague, Czech Republic.

How long does a peptide test take?

It depends on the lab. Janoshik says about 40 hours after the sample arrives. Freedom Diagnostics says most results take 1 to 3 business days. Our test takes 2 to 3 weeks, including post. Some labs sell rush results for extra.

Is a cheap peptide test reliable?

Price says little about quality. A $99 test and a $250 test can use the same method. What matters is:

  • the method (HPLC, mass spec),
  • whether the lab uses a reference standard for that peptide,
  • whether the report shows the raw chromatogram, not just a number.

ISO 17025 is a quality standard for testing labs. Colmaric and Vanguard say they hold it. Most of the other labs, including Krause Analytical, do not.

FAQ

How much does it cost to test peptides?

For one common peptide, $150 to $250 at most labs. Public tests start at $69. Our private test is $99. Free tests exist in the UK.

What is the cheapest peptide testing lab?

For a public result, Finnrick at $69 when you build your own test. For a private result, our $99 test is the lowest published price in the table above.

Can I test peptides for free?

Yes. In the UK, we test vials free and publish the result. Finnrick also does free community tests if it picks your request.

Is HPLC enough?

HPLC shows purity. It does not prove identity on its own, and it does not show the amount in the vial unless the lab measures it. For a full answer you want purity, identity and amount.

Can I test peptides at home?

Home kits are colour tests. They can't measure purity or the amount in the vial. For that you need a lab with HPLC.
